The challenge
An existing Radiotherapy Therapy workshop required total refurbishment to provide a modern office facility for clinical support teams.
The area had been underused for a period of time with a dilapidated condition of building fabric and mechanical and electrical services / equipment.
The project required a clear and accurate business case and funding application supported by a detailed and accurate condition assessment, planning and design appraisals and an accurate costing analysis.
The project was to be completed within a 6 month timeframe, including decanting the current users prior to refurbishment works commencing.
The solution
PropCare led the design process with users and key stakeholders to determine the requirements and expectations of each user group and make full use of the capacity of the space available. As the project centred on the upgrade of an existing facility PropCare aligned the rectification and upgrade of end of life building infrastructure to the improved spaces created this included:
- Installation of LED lighting throughout to reduce energy usage but also increase the lighting levels.
- Installation of double-glazed windows to reduce the heat loss external noise.
- Installation of improved controls for the heating / cooling, improving energy efficiency.
- Installation of ventilation to in accordance with current legislation and standards.
- Installation of a lift to provide a fully accessible and compliant facility.
- Installation of replacement of flooring and repainting throughout.
The outcome
The clinical support staff using the newly refurbished facility now have an uplifted fresh environment, designed specific to their requirements with open spaces to provide a collaborative and engaging environment.
